This development on St Catharine’s College’s St Chad’s site delivers 23 en-suite student rooms and generous communal areas within two new cross-laminated timber buildings.

Nestled among mature trees, a Grade II-listed house and 1970s halls, the scheme reused an existing basement to manage high groundwater and a tight conservation-area footprint.

Prefabricated CLT enabled rapid, low-impact construction, and its warm surfaces were left exposed in feature spaces through close acoustic, fire and architectural coordination.

Atelier Crescendo’s responsibilities included full acoustic design.
